Original Medicare is Parts A and B. Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Part D drug plans are sold by private insurers. A licensed Topflight agent compares them for you at no cost.

  • ◆Part A covers hospital stays, skilled nursing and hospice. Most people pay no premium.
  • ◆Part B covers doctors, outpatient care and equipment. The standard 2026 premium is $202.90 a month with a $283 annual deductible.
  • ◆Part C, Medicare Advantage, bundles A and B (and usually D) through a private plan with its own network and extras.
  • ◆Part D is prescription drug coverage. In 2026 your out-of-pocket drug costs are capped at $2,100.
  • ◆Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans pay the gaps Original Medicare leaves.

Enrollment periods that matter

  • ◆Initial Enrollment Period: the 7 months around your 65th birthday.
  • ◆Annual Enrollment Period: October 15 to December 7, for Advantage and Part D changes effective January 1.
  • ◆Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment: January 1 to March 31.
  • ◆Special Enrollment Periods for moves, losing employer coverage and other life events.
  • ◆Still working at 65? Employer coverage can change what you need. Ask before you enroll.

What does Medicare Part B cost in 2026?

The standard Part B premium is $202.90 a month and the annual deductible is $283, per CMS. Higher incomes pay an income-related surcharge.

When can I change my Medicare Advantage or Part D plan?

During the Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 to December 7, with changes effective January 1, or during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period, January 1 to March 31, or a Special Enrollment Period if you qualify.
